The 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) officially launched its inaugural player auction at Lahore’s Expo Centre on Wednesday, signaling a historic transformation in the league’s player acquisition process.
For the first time, the PSL has replaced its traditional draft system with a competitive auction format. This shift introduces greater transparency, strategy, and excitement, as franchises now bid openly to secure their preferred players.
Big-Money Signings Dominate Opening Session
Islamabad United set the tone early by signing Pakistani all-rounder Faheem Ashraf for an impressive Rs85 million. Shortly after, Rawalpindi — formerly Multan Sultans under new ownership — secured fast bowler Naseem Shah for Rs86.5 million, making him one of the highest-paid players of the auction.
Karachi Kings re-signed Australian veteran David Warner for Rs79 million, while Quetta Gladiators strengthened their squad with former South African all-rounder Rilee Rossouw for Rs55.5 million. Lahore Qalandars brought back pace spearhead Haris Rauf for Rs 76 million, and Mohammad Ali was picked up by Hyderabad for Rs 21.5 million.

However, the competitive nature of the auction was evident as several notable players — including Imad Wasim, Mohammad Junaid, Mehdi Hassan Miraz, Hussain Talat, Asif Afridi, Danish Aziz, and Mohammad Zeeshan — went unsold in the opening rounds.
New Financial Structure and Squad Rules
The auction introduced updated financial parameters, with base price categories ranging from Rs6 million to Rs40.2 million. Minimum incremental bids began at Rs250,000, creating dynamic bidding battles among franchises.
Each team must assemble a squad of 16 to 20 players, including at least two uncapped under-23 players. Franchises are allowed to retain up to five players from previous seasons.
Regarding overseas talent, teams can field 3–4 foreign players in their playing XI, with total foreign player limits set between five and seven per squad. Additionally, franchises are permitted to directly sign one foreign player who did not feature in PSL X. To support these expanded options, the overall team purse has been increased to Rs500 million.

Celebrating a New Era for PSL

PSL management also outlined comprehensive guidelines covering player retention, bidding procedures, and squad composition to ensure a seamless transition from the draft system to the auction model.
With record-breaking bids, revised financial rules, and a more competitive format, the PSL 11 player auction marks the beginning of a new era for Pakistan’s premier T20 league — one that promises heightened drama, strategic team-building, and greater engagement for fans ahead of the 2026 season.
